Don reached out to me just shy of Ashley’s birthday and told me he had a special request. They were expecting their second baby, another beautiful baby boy, and Don wanted to do something sweet for Ashley. See, the baby boy she was carrying, perfectly created by our God who makes no mistakes, had a congenital heart defect. Shortly after birth, this precious boy would need to undergo surgery and Don wanted to gift a photo session to his wife to show her just how amazing and strong she is. This was to be a special maternity session.
Don learned about me through another long-time client of mine (see Renley’s cake smash session, Ava’s lifestyle newborn session and Ava’s cake smash session), which is just about the best compliment I can receive. A client who trusts me and loves their photos enough to send their friends my way is truly the greatest gift and this special maternity session was right up my alley. We made plans to do their maternity session as well as a modified, at-home newborn session as soon as baby boy was sufficiently recovered from his hospital stay.
The evening of their special maternity session was perfect. The lighting was gorgeous, the love between Ashley and Don evident, and their pride in their first born, Hudson, shone out. Sometimes incorporating a toddler into a maternity photo session can be tricky, especially if it’s in the evening – when most toddlers are tuckered out from the day – but Hudson was a super star. He brought along his granddad, who wrangled Hudson during the mommy and daddy parts of the session, but when it was his turn, his mischievous cuteness was everything I hoped it would be.
Their baby has since been born and all is proceeding to plan, from what I understand. I can’t wait to meet him and share his newborn session, coming later this summer 💙
