My cake smash sessions, while many, appear to be few because I haven’t blogged as many of them as I’ve photographed. So today I’m working to remedy that because I want moms and dads to see how cute they are and start dreaming of scheduling one for their little prince or princess. Cake smash sessions are one of my favorite type to photograph for so many reasons – let’s dive into all things cake smash goodness.
- First of all – it’s a one year old. They’re just cute, plain and simple. I don’t know many people who wouldn’t melt over watching a one year old dive unabashedly into a cake. That is the epitome of cake smash goodness, come on.
- The session is totally unscripted. There’s no right or wrong way to do a cake smash session. Whatever happens is adorable. If they jump right in with abandon? Cute. If they’re terrified of the cake and want nothing to do with it? Precious. Nothing is off limits and there are no expectations. That’s SO freeing.
- This is a great opportunity to get updated photos of your baby. Doesn’t every momma want to remember such sweetness?? We start with portraits and capture some of this glorious age without frosting smeared everywhere. Then we dive into the cake smash. It’s a little bit of everything and all of it is pure cake smash goodness.
Arya is one of my newborn graduates. When her first birthday rolled around, I was delighted to hear back from her mom, asking about a cake smash session. We met on a beautiful, foggy morning and I was blown away by how much she’s grown – it’s always a mind trip to see the newborns I’ve photographed turn into walking, talking people. She was precious in her pearls and white lace dress, flirting with the camera and snuggling into her safe daddy. Their entire family is gorgeous and it was so great catching up and capturing the celebration of Arya’s first year.
