There’s something really special about welcoming returning families into the studio—like catching up with old friends and getting to celebrate some of life’s most beautiful milestones together. This newborn session with baby Meyer was exactly that kind of experience.

This wasn’t Meyer’s family’s first time in front of my lens—we originally met when I photographed his big brother, Clark, for his newborn session. When they reached out to let me know they were expecting their second baby and wanted to book another Burtonsville newborn photography session, I was honored and excited to create something both meaningful and unique for their growing family.

One of my favorite things about working with returning families is being able to blend continuity with individuality. For Clark’s session, we used a soft blanket embroidered with his name for one of the shots. So of course, when they brought in a similar blanket with Meyer’s name, I knew we had to incorporate it too. It was such a sweet way to tie the sessions together without repeating them exactly.
Another element they wanted to carry over was the heart-shaped bowl. We had used it in Clark’s session and they loved the symbolism and charm of it. So we brought it back for Meyer—but this time with a completely new color palette. Clark’s session leaned one way, so we took Meyer’s in a totally different direction color-wise, making sure each little guy has his own look and feel while still sharing a few sentimental details in common.

I love how this approach gave both boys a shared visual connection—same cozy heart bowl, same personalized blanket—but also let each of their personalities and moments shine on their own. It’s one of those thoughtful touches that really defines my approach to Burtonsville newborn photography: classic, consistent elements made personal to each family and each baby.

For Meyer’s session, the focus was entirely on him. While many of my newborn sessions include family and sibling posing, this family chose to have the spotlight just on baby Meyer this time around. And honestly? It was such a peaceful, beautiful session. With no distractions, we were able to fully soak in his sweet little details—his expressions, those tiny fingers and toes, and the way he settled so perfectly into each pose.

Working with this family again reminded me why I love what I do. These quiet, intimate moments—captured in a soft light, with meaningful props and thoughtful setups—become the heirlooms that tell a family’s story as it grows.

If you’re looking for a photographer who takes a personalized approach to Burtonsville newborn photography, I’d love to welcome you into my studio. Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, each session is tailored just for you—and I’m always ready to help you document these fleeting, magical first days.
