Gallery Delivery: How and When You’ll Get Your Photos

You know that feeling when you hear the chime of a new email, glance at your phone… and there it is: a message from me, Liz, with your newborn photo gallery ready to view?

OHMYSTARS, it’s the moment you’ve been refresh-refresh-refreshing for. You settle in with your partner (and probably a lukewarm coffee if we’re being real), hit play on the slideshow, and within seconds… it hits you like a tidal wave: the squeals, the tears, the full-body melt as those images play across your screen.

If you’re thinking, “Okay but when does THAT magic happen?” – you’re in the right place. Whether you’re still considering booking or currently pacing the hallway waiting for proof gallery delivery, I’m here to walk you through exactly what to expect after your session. No secrets, no fluff, just the real story.

Waiting Can Be the Hardest Part (Especially on Zero Sleep)

Let’s be real – after a newborn session, especially a posed one where your baby basically took control like a tiny CEO in a swaddle, you might be holding your breath wondering if we actually got any good photos.

First, deep breath. Yes. We absolutely got amazing images.

Even if your toddler melted down mid-session (which I frankly never count as a bad thing – it’s part of the story and I’m here for it), or the baby cluster-fed for 45 straight minutes, I promise you that your gallery will show the connection, chaos, and beauty of your family exactly as it is… and exactly as it’s meant to be remembered.

But if you’re up at 2am refreshing your inbox, wondering where your photos are, let me break it all down for you.

What Happens After the Session? Let Me Explain…

1. Proof Galleries Come First (for Posed Newborn and Some Lifestyle Sessions)

For posed newborn sessions, you’ll receive a proof gallery within about 5 days. This is essentially the first look – I’ve culled the best of the best (as in, no duplicates, blinkies, or awkward angles), applied basic exposure and color balance corrections, and am giving you a clean selection to choose from.

Now, here’s where it gets a little technical: newborn skin is a WHOLE THING. And for posed sessions, I take my time hand-editing each chosen image to make that skin buttery soft without looking unnatural. So instead of editing 30-90 images that you may or may not want, I wait until you pick. Smart, right?

You’ll watch the slideshow (which you WILL cry through – it’s basically guaranteed), choose your collection, select your faves (unless you go all in with Collection A, which gives you everything), and then I get back to work for round two of editing.

For lifestyle newborn sessions, sometimes I only send a final gallery (usually within 2 weeks), especially if the baby’s skin is looking pretty smooth to begin with. But if baby has some temporary skin things going on (common, normal, and no biggie), I’ll do the proof gallery flow here as well.

2. Final Gallery Comes Once You’ve Selected Your Images

Once I know which images you want, I take the gallery offline temporarily so I can perform detailed edits on just those chosen images. Typically, you’ll receive your final, fully edited gallery within 2-3 weeks from the time you finalize your selection.

That means, from start to finish, you’ll have your fully done photos in hand within 3 weeks of your session (faster if we skip the proof gallery step).

3. I Always Share Sneak Peeks (Because I Can’t Stand to Scream Alone)

I’m terrible at keeping secrets when it comes to photographic cuteness. So as I’m sorting and culling, I usually fire off 2-3 sneak peeks via text or email. Totally unedited, totally adorable. This helps you breathe easy after even the most chaotic session (👋 cluster-feeding babies and rebel toddlers) and gives you a glimpse into all the goodness we captured.

Odds are, the minute you see those sneak peeks, your energy shifts from “did we get anything??” to “OHMAHGOODNESS, I literally cannot wait for the whole thing!!!”

4. You’ll Know Your Place in the Editing Queue

I don’t like leaving people in limbo, so if I’ve got a little backlog, I always tell you where you are in the editing queue. That way, there’s no guessing and no unnecessary inbox refreshes (unless you just like the thrill – I don’t judge 😂).

5. When the Slideshow Arrives, Prepare for Squealing (and Tissues)

One of my returning clients sent me a video of herself watching the slideshow of her newborn gallery – and, I kid you not, she went from full-volume squeals to tears in less than 60 seconds. Her message said:

“Liz, I am not exaggerating when I say I immediately squealed when I saw the email from you. As we started to watch the slideshow, I was squealing with excitement at the first handful of photos and that quickly turned into tears as the photos transitioned to just Eliza on the bed. And then I proceeded to cry through the remainder of the slideshow. My heart is so full. I am forever grateful to you and your gift of capturing the sweetest moments of my family. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

That. Right there. That’s why I do what I do.

These Galleries Are More Than Just Files – They Are Your Story

The delivery timeline isn’t just about logistics. It’s about honoring your family’s experience. The pause between your session and your full gallery reveal is intentional space – the kind that gives me time to perfect every detail and ensures that what I give you reflects how treasured these moments truly are.

One thing I say often – and mean with all my heart – is that my job isn’t just to take photos. It’s to tell your story back to you, so you can see yourselves the way your baby sees you: full of love, hands always reaching, eyes always soft.

Ready to Preserve Your Baby’s First-Year Magic?

If you’re pregnant, newly postpartum, or thinking ahead to baby’s next milestone, let’s chat about what matters most to you. Whether it’s a maternity session full of quiet anticipation or the swirl of cake smash chaos at one-year, I love walking with families throughout the journey.

You can inquire about your session here, or just shoot me an email (lizviernesphotography@gmail.com) to ask your questions. No pressure, no rush. I’m here, and I’d be honored to tell your story.

In the meantime, don’t forget to keep tissues handy when your gallery email hits. 😉
