about me - balloons, one letters, rocking chair

Hiring a photographer is a very personal decision and, if you’re going to feel comfortable allowing me into your life/home/memories, you should know a little about me! I’m honestly an open book – there’s not much that I won’t share (is there *anything* I won’t share? I’d have to think about that…I don’t have many secrets…I’m your average run-of-the-mill human). Today I’m digging deep and trying to think of the most interesting, little known facts about me so that you actually WANT to read this blog!

Maybe we’ll start off mundane and dig deeper as we go, huh?

about me - one year old looks around

#1 I married my high school sweetheart, Brandon. We met when his family moved to my hometown from Hawaii. We became a couple the summer before our senior year of high school and dated for 10 years – through college, long distance, until we got married. Our wedding anniversary is our 10 year dating anniversary so this year, on June 17th, we’ll wish each other a happy 17/27! (Not many people at our age can say they’ve known their spouse almost 2/3 of their life ❤️) Did you know this about me?

#2 I don’t drink alcohol. This is not a moral choice but a tastebuds choice – I just really don’t like it (except for communion wine…I looooove communion wine…is that weird??). While sometimes (especially after a day of refereeing my children’s bickering) it might be nice to drown my sorrows in a glass or two of wine, I always say I’d rather eat my calories than drink them. If given the option between a glass of wine or a brownie sundae, the brownie sundae wins Every Time. I’ll even take a fried ice cream in a pinch – I don’t discriminate.

#3 Dessert coffee is my weakness – are we sensing a theme? I’m the proud new(ish) owner of a Nespresso machine because I love coffee but I refuse to give my business to Fivebucks. I can’t stomach paying that much money for a cup of liquid I can brew at home for far fewer dollars and far less calories. (Maybe number 3 is also about how frugal I am.) I have a whole setup now but it took me a minute to figure it out. I bought some Torani syrups (yummy flavors like gingerbread, Tiramisu, brown sugar cinnamon, and shortbread) and some almond milk creamer. I combine two shots of syrup, some creamer and some plain old almond milk in my frother and get that going. Then I brew an 8 ounce cup of decaf coffee (I can’t drink the regular stuff, even in the morning, or I’ll be up all night) and pour half of it into the coffee mug with my yummily frothed creamer concoction. The other half of the brewed coffee goes into the refrigerator for tomorrow (another vote for frugal).

about me - here comes the cake

#4 I didn’t know this before the pandemic but it turns out I’m an extroverted introvert. I LOVE making plans to do things and go places and see people when those plans are far in the future…the closer those plans get to being an actuality, the less I want to do them. The day/night of the plans, the idea of changing into my jammies and snuggling up on the couch is the best idea I’ve ever heard. I typically don’t indulge my secret introvert nature and I’m always happy I left the house and followed through with the plans…but it sure is hard to get my mind off those jammies.

#5 My music ride or dies are Ed Sheeran and Pink. I never knew I had a girl crush until I saw Pink in concert and ohmahgah she’s *amazing*. And watching Ed Sheeran build a song with a loop pedal is absolutely incredible. The guy will come out onstage by himself with a guitar and straight up BUILD A SONG by thumping out a rhythm and strumming a few chords and it is Not To Be Missed. I also have a thing for Walker Hayes (I love the stories he tells with his lyrics) and everyone who knows me knows that Eminem is my boyfriend, sorrynotsorry. (Did I just age myself? I think I did.)

So now you know a little bit more about me. Maybe you also are a closet introvert who talks a lot and lights up in front of a crowd. Maybe you totally drink coffee that tastes like ice cream. Maybe you also hyped yourself up to “Lose Yourself” before taking an Anatomy and Physiology exam and you totally get my love for a scrawny, bleach-blond bad boy from Detroit (who, it must be said, is the polar opposite of my real life love –> and I definitely made the right choice). Or maybe none of those things but reading my secrets made you feel like you trusted me enough to hand over your newborn baby or invite me into your home. Either of those will work ❤️ and thanks for taking the time to read about me.

Also, isn’t Leo’s oops moment (below) just the cutest thing??
