Was It A Boudoir Maternity Session?
Was it a boudoir maternity session? Was it not? Let me recap the story a little bit (but you can read the beginning yourself here if you’d like). Kayla and John booked a Belly to Baby session and then Kayla decided, before we even met for the first time, to tack on an additional set of maternity photos. Her rationale was that John was so appreciative of her pregnant body and she wanted to do a little something special to commemorate the time as well as surprise her sweet, supportive husband with some intimate, tastefully sexy, belly-baring shots.
Ok, so not a boudoir maternity session, exactly, but more-so a sweet, tender documentation of her pregnancy at home where she feels the most comfortable.
She Was So Comfortable During Her Boudoir Maternity Session
Kayla possessed such a comfortability during our session that I admired so much. I personally don’t know that I would’ve been as confident and uninhibited as she was. Not that she was swinging from the chandelier…🤣 far from it. But every pose I suggested, she was up for. Her ability to relax her features into such beautiful, graceful serenity while standing in her underwear in front of a virtual stranger (ok, we had met once before) was enviable. I think I would’ve been giggling and making self-deprecating jokes (#awkwardRus). Not Kayla.
The Goal of Her Boudoir Maternity Session
She had a mission to create her own version of the perfect boudoir maternity session for her husband and, boy, did we ever. I seriously left this session vowing to do more of these. In fact, I’m putting it out in the universe right now. Want a solo lifestyle maternity session, pregnant mamas of the DMV? I’m your girl! Show me your light-filled rooms with light, neutral decor and we will make magic happen. Add some sheers into the mix like Kayla did and we will light your photos albums on FIRE (okay – figuratively…I just had a heart attack thinking of memories on fire, let’s not do that).
Leading Up To Her Boudoir Maternity Session
In the weeks leading up to the session, Kayla and I had fun sending each other inspiration shots – everything I sent, she loved. She had her outfits steamed and ready to go and we danced around Captain, their loyal black lab, getting all the shots we could think of. Kayla had this amazing playlist on in the background and, at one point, their wedding song came on. I think even I teared up at that moment!
After these three sessions with this precious family (newborn blog coming next week!), I think I’m spoiled for future clients to come. Everyone has to be just as amazing as Kayla and John are because they’ve set the bar high.
Wait till you meet their darling little one, whose identity they decided to keep as a surprise to themselves until their first moment meeting in the delivery room. I won’t spoil the surprise just yet 😉
