So here we are, one year into the Covid pandemic with hospital restrictions still in place. So many new moms and dads have had to sacrifice their dreams of a Fresh 48 session – which are photos of the brand new baby, usually taken at the hospital, within the first two days of the baby’s life – because no one is allowed to visit at the hospital. I totally get it…if these are the health regulations that need to be in place to keep us as safe as possible, I’m okay with it. But it is sad that a year’s worth of new parents have a gap in their memory books. There can be a solution, though…a Fresh 48 at home!
That’s just what this particular momma decided to do. Melissa contacted me back in September, knowing that she wanted a Fresh 48 session + a newborn session of her baby daughter, due in November. Her goal was to have a home birth – made a little tricky by the fact that baby was sitting pretty in the breech position – but she understood that if she couldn’t find a practitioner who would assist her at home, she might have to deliver in the hospital. With the Covid restrictions, we spoke frankly about the possibility that it might not turn out how she wanted. But through the entire planning process, we worked off the fact that a Fresh 48 at home was the goal and we were going to do our hardest to make it happen.
Much to my surprise and delight, Melissa contacted me mid-November to let me know that baby Alexandra was here!! She had delivered that breech baby, naturally, AT HOME! That’s some rockstar, warrior status right there and it meant that we were free to do the Fresh 48 session at home that she wanted!! I scooted over there the very next day and got the brand new baby photos that Melissa had been hoping for since our first conversation months before. And, heehee, you can *totally* tell that she was a breech baby, just look at those adorable legs that stayed right up by her face anytime she was unswaddled 😍 (Those legs were relaxed by the time I saw her for her newborn session, in case you want to check that cuteness out.)

WOW!! These are amazing. You document the first 48 hours of a newborn’s life perfectly. I am just amazed at these.
