Today I wanted to talk about my favorite printed products. Over the winter, Liz Viernes Photography got a bit of a reboot. Pricing and offering changed pretty significantly. I worked on my numbers, really dug deep and considered my costs of doing business. In doing this, I made the hard but overwhelmingly necessary decision to charge my worth as opposed to the rock bottom prices I had been offering for years.
Not only did my pricing change, my offerings changed as well. I have made the decision to begin offering printed products in addition to digital downloads. It has long been a pet peeve of mine thinking about the beautiful portraits that I’ve shot being relegated to a hard drive somewhere, never again to see the light of day.
While I admit freely that I have been my own worst client in the past, I have started printing my own images and hanging them on my walls. Nothing compares to the joy of seeing images of yourself and your loved ones hanging on the walls of your home. It’s a constant reminder of happy times of togetherness. Sometimes after waking but before getting out of bed, I’ll just lay there and look at the printed pictures on my walls, remembering the day and the giggles and closeness that those photos resulted from.
Recently, I had a photography client purchase a number of prints and a canvas from her maternity session. She emailed me after receiving her products, gushing:
“Hi Liz, just wanted to let you know that the canvas already arrived and it is GORGEOUS. Thank you again for making such beautiful photos…!”
She included a picture of the canvas in plastic so that I could see it as well and now I’m dying to see its final resting place on her wall. Printing your images from your session gives you such a return for your money…over and over again. You’ll walk into a room and find your kids paging through the album from their newborn sessions. You’ll have legacy items documenting family members that have passed on.
