I have been wanting to shoot a session in Old Town Alexandria for a while now. There’s this alleyway (let’s call it the Alexandria, VA, alleyway, shall we?) that I see all my wedding photographer friends utilize and I started dreaming about shooting a session there. I wasn’t sure what kind of session it would be – because the Alexandria, Va, alleyway just screams for lovebirds to embrace inside its’ walls – but circumstances figured it out for me!
Hadley is one of my First Year Membership babes (see her lifestyle newborn session here). Her mom and dad live about an hour and a half or so south of me and, when it came time to photograph Hadley’s sitter session, we knew we’d be looking for a spot that was convenient for both of us. At first we were searching for a farm with tall grasses and a white fence but, not being a VA local, I was at a loss for where to start. I put all my VA friends on the job (and got some great suggestions, thank you, friends!!) but as the session date loomed closer with no concrete plan, I realized that the Alexandria, VA, alleyway was the perfect spot!
I had to go check it out for lighting, of course, because all the engagement sessions I had seen shot there were undoubtedly in the evening…the time of day when your typical seven month old baby is just settling down for the night. Not wanting to subject Hadley or her momma to that, we decided morning was the best time to meet and I went to scope it out for suitability about a week beforehand. Well…to the surprise of no one, it was perfect – it’s one of those spots that gets great light most of the day (thank you alleyway and shade trees). It’s also really special because of the cobblestones that run the length of it and the fun brick and wrought iron fencing. Perfect!
Hadley is just the sweetest, cutest little girl with an awesome head of hair and beautiful, big blue eyes. Her mom, Cam, dressed her adorably and we spent the most special morning capturing this brand new sitter. I can’t wait to see her again in November for her first birthday cake smash!!! (But slow down, time, no need to hurry – I can be patient ❤️)
