After the crazy year that 2020 was, it’s hard to believe that we have officially entered a new year. This new year, 2021, holds a lot of hope for a lot of people – hope that we will get Covid under control and life back to normal as we knew it prior to last March. For me, my mantra has been and continues to be New Year, New Babies – and the year is starting out strong!
Wedding and portrait photographers typically have a defined busy season and then a period of downtime. Newborn photographers don’t really get that downtime and I’m not complaining! I love spring, summer and fall for outdoor portrait sessions but winter is perfect for hunkering down inside where it’s warm and capturing all the sweet newborn goodness that comes my way. Liz Viernes Photography is almost FOUR YEARS OLD and New Year, New Babies became a thing almost immediately. Once I established motherhood and baby photography as my niche, the babies started rolling in!
Sometimes I don’t know how I got so lucky. New Year, New Babies almost seems to good to be true for someone who hasn’t even been in business for five years – but thanks to Google, word-of-mouth-referrals and Facebook/Instagram, somehow the mommas keep finding me! And it works out so conveniently that the bulk of my babies come to me January through March when the only limiting factor to how many sessions I can accept is how many I can edit and return within the two week time period I promise.
I absolutely adore my job. This month alone, I have 6 newborns coming and several sitter sessions from my First Year Membership club. The thought of all that cuteness on my calendar makes me want to squeal and I sometimes have to (figuratively) pinch myself that I get paid to do this thing that I love so much. Not everyone is so lucky. New Year, New Babies – I’m ready. Bring it!
