So, being a light and airy photographer, the typical colors you see in my images are light, neutral and understated – that’s what I usually recommend to my clients in order to achieve a classic, timeless result. In fact, I’ve written a blog post on the very subject of what to wear to your photo session because so many people have questions about it. However, Abha? She wore a red maternity dress for her late winter maternity photo session and She Was Stunning.
I actually wasn’t quite sure what to expect based on the way Abha described herself to me before we met. I know I certainly have my own insecurities about the way I look – as do most of us! – and, in the various pre-session phone and email exchanges we had, Abha voiced some of her personal insecurities to me. I reassured her as best I could that I would work hard to minimize the areas that she considered flawed – that’s one of the reasons to hire a professional in the first place. We are skilled in highlighting the areas that should be highlighted and masking the areas that don’t show as well. So I felt certain that I could employ some of my photographer-tricks to help her feel as attractive as possible in her maternity photos…because you’re only pregnant with your first baby once. You should love the photos, right?? But I was completely unprepared for how Abha looked in her red maternity dress.
She didn’t show up in this red maternity dress, however. She and her husband, Asheer, started out in casual dress as we roamed around the property. They were so cute with one another…I was able to witness their sweet connection in the way that Asheer made Abha laugh and the way they giggled and teased each other. We got comfortable together and they learned what to expect from me as we proceeded through their photo session. And then she changed into her dress and I was blown away by how regally she wore this dress. I saw none of the insecurities that she had voiced to me over the phone. I only saw a beautiful, blooming mother-to-be, with a gentle smile and a husband who said, “Damn, girl” under his breath as she gracefully flowed through the posing into which I guided her. Not gonna lie, the “damn, girl” got me. It was so unexpected from him and so adorably appreciative of the beautiful woman who was about to give birth to their first daughter ❤️❤️❤️
Oh, how I loved this couple (and, oh, how sad I am that this Covid-19 has stolen their newborn photos from them 😭). But, damn, girl…that red maternity dress 😍
