Have you ever wanted to do something really special for an expectant family member or close friend but had trouble deciding what would be appreciated? Consider giving newborn photos as a gift! I, personally, was given a session with a local photographer when my second baby was born (before I did photography for a living) and it was the most thoughtful gift. And a handful of times, I’ve been on the other end of the equation as the photographer who was hired to do newborn photos for a loved one. What a wonderful way to show someone you care by giving them the forever gift of memories ❤️
On that note, the journey to me doing sweet Theo’s newborn photos was a circuitous one. I was contacted by Theo’s mom’s friend, Ginny, first. Ginny and Laura are best friends and Ginny was going to be traveling from New York to Maryland to attend Laura’s baby shower. While in town, and because she was also pregnant, she wanted to do a maternity shoot with Laura. Sadly, shortly after hiring me, Ginny was put on bedrest by her doctor and, as such, was unable to travel – not for the baby shower nor for the photos.
Undeterred, Ginny decided to gift the deposit she had paid me to Laura and Laura’s husband Dylan and they hired me to do Theo’s newborn session. It was really nice meeting them after months of phone, text and email consultation. Laura and Dylan are a really great team, trading off baby duty so that they can each catch up on some sleep and, just in general, being really supportive and sweet to each other. I was sad to miss out on meeting Ginny but really glad to get to know another genuinely lovely family. Thank you, Dylan and Laura, for inviting me into your home and allowing me to document a day in the life of Theo 💙And thank you, Ginny, for giving newborn photos as a gift.
