One of the biggest challenges with blogging is trying to figure out what people are searching for. As a photographer, you want to put yourself out in front of the people who are looking to hire someone with your skills. So what might someone looking for pregnancy photos with a toddler search for? It’s not as hard as we try to make it, right? Literally, they probably type “pregnancy photos with a toddler” into their Google search bar and, hopefully (!!), up would pop my name.
It’s no secret that my heart is in maternity and newborn photography. Every time I receive a new request and the subject line says “maternity photos” or newborn session” my heart goes pitter patter and I begin thinking of new and wonderful ways of documenting this special time in people’s lives. I love that I’m able to incorporate my nine years of maternity and newborn nursing experience to work with this population – it’s a stage of life that is just so near and dear to my heart.
That said, I was so happy to hear from Julie who, with her husband Jai and their young daughter Chloe, is expecting their second baby girl. They definitely fit the criteria of someone looking for “pregnancy photos with a toddler” and I’m ever so delighted that they found me!
Julie and I worked together to figure out outfits for their session and, when the day of their photos dawned and rain was in the forecast, we quickly figured out a plan B location in case we needed overhead protection from the elements. The Shrine of St Anthony in Ellicott City, MD, was the perfect light and airy backdrop on a day that needed some help in the light department for these maternity photos!
To my delight, once Julie had the photos back, her first comment was “Pictures look amazing!! You can’t even really tell it was done on a rainy day :)” which was music to my ears 😍 My goal is always to create a session experience that people look back on and remember fondly and I hope that was the case for the Shin family despite the weather (did I mentioned that it POURED on my drive to the location??? I was only a little stressed 😂) – and Jai’s comment that the session was even better than their engagement photos (I have my couples canoodle and giggle so that I can capture the most authentic expressions and interactions) made my heart happy as well.
And that “with a toddler” part of their session? Well. Let me just say that Chloe owned these photos and totally stole the show. Peek her cuteness below…😍
I’m happy to report that baby Ellie made her entrance to the world, happy and healthy, on June 22, and her newborn photos will be coming soon!
