Baltimore Fresh 48 | Enrique

Fresh 48

November 21, 2024

To kick off my inaugural blog (does inaugural count there – first blog in what feels like 4 years??), I’m sharing Enrique’s Baltimore Fresh 48 session that I shot a couple weeks ago. This session was so utterly precious for so many reasons – you’ll see it down below, don’t you worry! – that it’s leap-frogging past all the others that are pending so that I can get it out of my head and into the interwebs where it can live forever. But first, some (undiagnosed) ADD ramblings:

I feel like months, years, DECADES go by between blog posts these days and it really is true that for the majority of the year, I feel like I’m in fight or flight mode with my photography load. Between shooting and editing, my queue can be anywhere from 5-8 sessions long at any given time and something has got to give. That something is usually blogging. However, this week, I thought I was coming down with the little bug that my husband had two weekends ago so I turned down multiple last minute newborns and I’m all caught up (except for the proof galleries I’m waiting on decisions for – but that equals all caught up in my book!). The little bug never materialized – I’ve started taking ARMRA colostrum and I’m wondering if that’s been the extra push that my immune system needed to not give in to whatever buggies were hovering 🎉 – so now I’m queue-free and ready to tackle some of these blogs that need to be written!

So, Enrique. My most recent adorable Baltimore Fresh 48 session. My consultation call with his parents about a week before his birth was the MOST refreshing call I’ve had in a long while. My process is usually pretty foolproof in weeding out the potential clients that likely aren’t going to be a good fit for me, my brand, and the way that I work. Every once in a while, however, someone gets through that turns out not to be a good fit and it’s a really draining situation for me – the particular client I am talking about was, I’m sure, a lovely human, but the trust just wasn’t there and I felt hovered over, questioned, and mistrusted (she ended up loving her photos, thankfully, but it wasn’t the greatest experience for me).

Enrique’s parents were the TOTAL opposite, bless them. I was mentioning to them that Baltimore Fresh 48 sessions tend to be a bit more raw than my normal style because hospital lighting is not the greatest (meaning the photos can be darker and grainier than my typical light and airy vibes), and Carlos said the most magical thing to me. He said, “We want to give you the liberty to be the artist you are.” In other words, we’re hiring you because we TRUST you. We love what we’ve seen from you and we know you’re going to deliver exactly what we’re hoping for so we’re going to let things unfold the way they’re meant to WITHOUT hovering over you and questioning your every move.

When I say those words LIT ME UP FROM THE INSIDE, please just excuse the hyperbole. As an artist, my work is deeply personal to me and trust me when I say that *I* want you to be as happy with your images as *you* are hoping to be. And I want to love them too!! I’m not going to put anything out that I’m not thrilled with because my name is on the line so you can be sure that I’m working as hard as I possibly can to put out a great product.

Anyway, little Enrique was born and I made my way out to Hopkins Bayview and spent the most precious 2 hours with this family that – I SWEAR TO YOU – came from the salt of the earth. The love and sweetness in that room was what novels are made of. I didn’t get some of the typical shots that I normally try to get in a Baltimore Fresh 48 because Enrique was *starving* and wanted to be nursing the majority of the time I was there but what I did get was a whole lot of love and togetherness and family… which is what makes my little heart go pitter patter.

Baltimore Fresh 48 sessions are one of the staple photography sessions that are now at the forefront of Liz Viernes Photography and Enrique’s was exactly what I needed to start the month of November right. Thankful!!
